Volunteer Opportunities
There's always something growing down with us. Our three farms -- and our organization as a whole -- are powered by people just like you. Want to join forces with us? Here's how we roll (and what we need help rolling with):
- The Farms
Typically, each farm has a weekly or bi-weekly work party from early Spring to May. During May, each farm has a set weekly work + harvest day where farm coordinators are present and working on projects which typically lasts through the last harvest in late Fall.
Throughout the week, people generally pop by the farms to continue working on projects without the farm coordinators.
If you're planning to visit for your first time and want to dig in on the farms, please print this waiver, sign it + bring it with you. If you can't, we'll have them on site with us.
- Social Media
We're looking for 3 key volunteers who can dedicate at least 6 months to helping us expand and grow our social media platform! We're looking for 1 person for each social media platform:
- Twitter
- Tumblr
- Google+
These positions are pretty open ended and will require creativity and time spent to managing each account. What do we expect? To help grow our presence and form each platform into something unique.
- Community Cook Book
We're looking for a five folks who live in the Central District and Beacon Hill -- for a total of 10 people -- to help us craft our community cook book!
You'll be responsible for reaching out into the neighborhood you call home and working to obtain 15 recipes each. Each neighborhood team will work together to create a plan on how to obtain these -- from working with restaurants to churches, to coffee shops to community gatherings.
We're looking to begin the publication of these in June-July. Our goal with the cookbook? To create not only a book full of delicious food, but also a book that tells a story about our neighborhood and our neighbors we may or may not know.
- Skill Share Program:
We need your feed back! We'll be crafting a skill share program that we plan to launch this summer. And we want to know what you'd like us to focus on! From food to bikes to art to ... you name it. Let us know what you want to learn about by filling this form out.
- 2012 Pride Parade:
We want to march (err, ride) in this year's Pride Parade. We're looking for 1-2 folks who would be interested in helping us organize and lead this event. Creativity is key!
- iPhone + Android App Developer + Researcher:That's right. We're going to revisit our app development, if we can find the right people to work with! If you know nothing about app development and still want to help, we're looking for one person to aid in research -- gathering information and sorting it out -- who will work with the developer/programmer working to make one kick ass app.
- Rockstar
Yep. We need a rockstar to help us with soliciting donations for a wide range of items we're in need of -- from a truck to gloves, from raffle prizes to food for bbq's. You should be awesome at communication and follow up and be well organized. You'll work closely with one of us to identify what we need, learn about our current partners, and set off into the wild blue yonder to make more friends and better involve community businesses in the work we do. The one thing though -- your hands will get sore from giving high fives.
Meet Rebekkah:
She's our rockstar volunteer coordinator who can answer all your questions and help get you growing with us. If your interested in any of the above opportunities or have questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with her: volunteer@alleycatacres.com.
You can also fill out our volunteer form -- so we can keep you in the loop with a monthly e-blast of volunteer opportunities that are open as well as reach out to you about specific interests you have that we need help with when the opportunity arises.
Also, stay up to date with our calendar of events & work parties to get an idea of what we have cookin':
