Today, on the way to grab lunch for all the volunteers, Sarah and I were headed back and commented, "Oh man, those look at those clouds! Let's hope it doesn't rain!"
And Mother Nature was on our side for the entire day. I think a few of us even got a little sunburn! The clouds, though menacing, never dropped an ounce of rain on us.
Which was perfect....
Because today was our first official harvest from our Beacon Hill site. With a crew of about 15, not only did we get some pea trellises made, we also constructed a simple compost bin area and then all joined forces to harvest the lettuce, spinach, turnips, radishes, green onions and chard that was ready!
All said and done, we harvested a total of 129 pounds of produce, and delivered about 120 pounds to the Beacon Avenue Food Bank.
It's quite amazing what we've accomplished in 4 months. I don't have words to describe what I'm feeling right now... Although there's a lot of work ahead of us, this is only the beginning and it can only get better than this.
If you missed out, have no fear. GOOD Magazine flew in from LA today to film us -- Eve and Max spent a good 5 hours with us today and captured all of today's work. A video will be out soon and we'll definitely post it once it's finished.
For now,
Sean
