Harvesting Relationships.

We're set on our mission to reconnect people with food through farming in the city because to us, food is more than what we eat. It’s also a medium through which we can forge intimate, meaningful relationships between people and place.

And in the past 11 months since we began our work, we've experienced this first hand. Over 200 folks have worked together, sharing personal stories and building new relationships with people they'd normally never meet. We've laughed, we've cried; we've worked hard, and we've played hard. And ultimately, we've seen just how powerful the simple act of growing food can be; how it nourishes not only our bellies, but also our souls.

You know that saying, "If these walls could talk?" Well, we often wonder, "If these farms could talk."

Thankfully, they can. And today's story is the first of it's kind.

Jose and Veronica, two long time friends of Sean's from Las Vegas, ventured out to lend a hand with some upkeep today. Unbeknown to him, Veronica and Sean had planned a little something extra that would be harvested: a marriage proposal.

With the fog billowing in and the onset of slight mist, a parsnip was pulled up with an odd red string attached.

Pulling the rest of it out of the ground, a small box, wrapped in a napkin, emerged from the soil. Curiously, and ever so cautiously, Jose unwrapped this mystery box (thinking someone hid something in the garden) to discover a ring.

And with that, a new beginning was harvested:

I can't help but be reminded by the words of Hanna Rion:

"Each year that passes brings another spring in which to grow young, another fall to harvest our riper dreams."

Veronica, Jose, from all of us, here's to growing young every year and harvesting your dreams.
