Facts Tell, But Stories Tell: Beacon Hill Bike Improvements

A note from our pals over at the Cascade Bicycle Club:

We need your positive input to create a more bicycle-friendly city.  As we lamented recently on the Bike Blog, we have presented the facts about many road safety projects, but we still face opposition from people who are skeptical and fearful.  As we have learned the hard way, "facts tell, but stories sell."

Can you share why you care about safer streets and getting more bike facilities in Seattle?

Tomorrow, 8/24/2010, you can stop by an open house for Beacon Hill projects.  Tuesday 8/24, between 5-7pm, at Jefferson Community Center, 3801 Beacon Ave S, learn more about bike-friendly improvements on 15th Ave S  and S Columbian Way.

If you support changes that make vibrant, livable neighborhoods, share how a project you care about has made a difference for the better.  Together, with your help, we can make great strides for safety and mobility like we did on Nickerson, Stone Way and Fauntleroy.

The south end has very limited bike connections, and these Beacon Hill projects will aid movement of bicyclists while also creating a safer corridor for drivers and pedestrians alike.

You can learn more the projects here and here, and send your comments on this and other projects to walkandbike@seattle.gov.  And forward this message to your riding buddies!

Stay tuned for news about more projects  - a street in your neighborhood may be next!
As many of you know, our first farm is located on Beacon Hill and, every Wednesday, we find ourselves cycling down 15th Ave S. to the Beacon Ave Food Bank; on top of our weekly deliveries, a majority of us and our volunteers cycle through this and many other neighborhoods daily. Changes like these will further help create a more bicycle friendly city -- something that we learned can be done.
