Growing Forth Through Winter ... We Need Your Help!

To help us grow forth through the winter time, (that sadly, is approaching fast!) our pals over at atelierjones donated their time, talent and design to create these amazing mobile greenhouses with us in mind.

We're looking forward to building three of these for use on our Beacon Hill site to help us in our continued effort to keep on growin'. Solar powered heat lamp, rain water catchment.. you name it, these mobile greenhouses are just what we had in mind for use.

Now, here's where we need to ask you for help: Each is slated to cost around $400 (see image below). We'd like to build three of them, with at least one of them being built by September 17th, to use during a planned Park(ing) Day event, and then to be put to use once the weather gets brrrrrrr cold (but let's not think about that just yet!).

Think you can help us?
There's a few ways that you can
:

1. Financially: You can donate through PayPal online, or if you'd rather send us a check, you can do that as well.

2. In-Kind Donations: Perhaps you work at a business where you can donate required materials? Or you know someone that does? Or perhaps you have the materials lyin' around and you don't plan on using them?

All donations to us are made through Sustainable Seattle, our fiscal sponsor, who is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; donations up to $250 are tax-deductible. If you have questions about donating, don't hesitate to ask -- shoot us an email at donate (at) alleycatacres (dot) com. High fives for helping us grow forth!

More on our pals at atelierjones:
atelierjones is an architecture, planning, and design firm that engages design, research, and community to reclaim sites, buildings, materials to build homes, offices, shops, churches, theaters, gardens, sportcourts, and infrastructure such as biodiesel stations.  Founded by Susan Jones, FAIA in 2003 the firm seeks out sites, buildings and materials with inherent, but underutilized value - to harvest their embodied energy, their catalytic power for owners and communities, their beauty.  Her work creates delight and wonder in leftover, dirty, forgotten places and spaces, and materials, creating new uses in innovative and beautiful ways.  atelierjones has forged this crossdisciplinary approach through embracing methodologies mined from sustainability and materials research, from historic preservation and adaptive reuse movements, real estate development as well as community activism.

The firm’s work has been recognized by numerous national, regional and local design awards, and been published nationally and internationally.  Susan and her staff leverage their design talents, leading and collaborating with multiple arts non-profit organizations across the Pacific Northwest, including space.city, Architects without Borders, Suyama Space, Arcade and Alley Cat Acres, among others.  Licensed in over 15 states, Susan has taught at the University of Washington since 1991, been a visiting design critic at numerous national universities, and is currently an Affiliate Associate Professor of Architecture in the College of the Built Environments, University of Washington and is LEED BD+C accredited.
