August 6th: Freedom

We've partnered with the folks behind the upcoming film FREEDOM in an attempt to help put the spotlight on energy use. (And we'd get to enjoy some AC after the past hot days we've had -- it's a win win!)

As many of you know, on the farm we steer clear of petroleum -- from our use of composting, bicycles and keeping those dang aphids off our beloved plants by using organic + natural methods -- avoiding, at best, our consumption of petroleum based products for a myriad of reasons. (But yes, let's be honest, we do drive at times -- we need to sometimes!)

It only comes natural that we're all about FREEDOM -- perhaps we speak on behalf of everyone whose gotten dirty with us over the past year a half, but it's rather liberating knowing we can find alternative methods to do what the powers at large have made us do for so long.

From the film:

The Admiral Theater in West Seattle is proud to present the only Seattle theatrical premiere of Freedom, the jolting new documentary that takes a hard look at America's perilous and unsustainable addiction to foreign oil on Saturday, August 6th at 7PM.

The documentary which focuses on a surprising solution to America's oil dependence, is from the filmmakers of the award winning Sundance documentary "Fuel," and will simultaneously debut both theatrically and on DVD.

In a move that harkens back to the grand old days of showmanship, the husband and wife Freedom filmmaking team of Josh and Rebecca Tickell will embark on a three month, 30+ city North American Clean Energy Tour in a fully customized Freedom Bus, a "green" constructed, highly energy efficient vehicle that will park at movie theatres playing the film. The Freedom Bus will be open to the public for free and will showcase the latest biofuel-efficient, advance fuels and wind, solar and water technology.

Freedom features an eclectic array of personalities, including former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, former NATO commander Wesley Clark, singer/songwriter Jason Mraz, (who scored the film), international author Deepak Chopra and such "green" actors as Ed Begley, Jr., Amy Smart and Michelle Rodriguez. Additionally, in a most unexpected and emotional segment, co-director Rebecca Tickell reveals an extraordinary predicament that is both touching and illuminating.

Both Josh and Rebecca Tickell will be available after the film for an audience Q&A.

Join us as we check out FREEDOM and imagine what the future may look like in the coming years.
